About 30 years ago, a movie called Somewhere in Time, with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was released but wasn't a big hit at the box office. Right around that time VHS Tapes were becoming popular and I discovered that movie.
It was a love story that takes place at The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island. I always hoped to see this beautiful place and walk the grounds that Elise McKenna and Richard Collier once did and I finally had my chance.

Is that Richard's spirit coming to find Elise?

These photos, hanging in the hallways of the hotel are a sculpture of a swimmer and large painting of an old car .

It’s truly a place that takes you back in time with it’s beautifully manicured grounds, priceless art work, haunting beautiful hallways and horse drawn carriages. As I walked thru the lobby, fittingly a harpist was playing the theme song to the movie while people enjoyed high tea in the palatial lobby.
We toured the island on our bicycles that we brought over with us on the ferry. There are no motorized vehicles on the island, only horse drawn carriages and they are used for transportation and deliveries. We saw many Amazon packages being delivered on horse drawn flatbeds throughout the city as well as kegs and food deliveries to restaurants. The town is picturesque with beautifully appointed Victorian homes, stunning vistas and quaint streets and neighborhoods.

Mackinaw City was where we stayed for two days. It’s touristy with many places to buy fudge. I swear, every other store on the strip was a place to buy fudge! Not sure why fudge is so popular in Mackinac City, but we bought some along with all the other tourist.
Mackinaw City is also home to the Mackinaw Bridge. It’s a 5 mile suspension bridge that connects the upper and lower peninsulas. It is the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world that began construction in 1954 with completion in 1957. I was lucky to catch a bit of the glow of the Aurora Borealis on this clear night

All the nights we've been here have been clear, a photographer's dream needed to catch the Milky Way and no better place was found to catch it than Headland’s International Dark Sky Park right here in Mackinac City. Headlands became one of the first 10 International Dark Sky Parks in the world in 2011. We were so lucky to have crystal clear skies to see the Milky Way over the Straights of Mackinac.
