First big trip of the 2017 Summer Season!
We were very excited to get on the road for the first time this summer! Heading to Kentucky and Tennessee, two states that I have not been to. I intend to visit all 50 in this travel trailer of ours, (of which I need to find an appropriate name for, really soon!).
First stop is Natural Bridge State Resort Park, we have a reservation for Whittleton Campground, which I was a bit concerned about since you can't see it from Google Maps because of the dense foliage of trees. ( I like to check out these locations before arriving since we're not the best Backer-Uppers in this 30 ft. trailer).
Before we arrived at our campsite, we took a wrong turn into the park's resort hotel which didn't have room to turn around a big rig...so we were stuck and without a clue as to what to do next. Luckily a park ranger arrived that had a CDL License and was able to talk Bobby thru backing up and getting out. He mentioned, "I guess you didn't see the sign that warns not to proceed if you're in a travel trailer" Nope, guess we didn't .
We found our way to Whittleton and when we got to the campsite, as I expected, the road was not optimal for our size trailer. It was narrow with a steep hill on the one side that made turning and backing up near impossible to get into the campsite. The other campers had pop-ups or tents and here we come in our Big Ass 30 Footer! (maybe that's what I should call it?) Most of the campers just sat back in their folding chairs with their beer and enjoyed the show of us pulling up, backing up, pulling up, backing up, etc. After about 1,000 tries and with the help of one really considerate neighbor (you'll discover my pinache for exaggeration) we got it parked but not before denting the front and the rear bumpers....but isn't that why they're called bumpers? Yes! That's what I told Bobby, but he didn't seem to accept that explanation. I personally think he did an awesome job getting that un-named trailer in that tiny spot and for following the directions of the Park Ranger to get out of that tiny hotel parking lot. Now for dinner and a good night's rest.
